Weekend recap

My weekend was spend working...

I'm an ER nurse in a hospital about 20 minutes away. I started working here when I was in nursing school in the nursery, my first job was to give the babies their first bath, take footprints and feed babies. It was probably the best job I ever had. Midway though nursing school I went on a trip to Phily with the school and got an internship at Bayfront medical Center in St. Pete, Florida. I was suppose to be in Labor and Delivery but when I got there they put me in trauma, I was scared to death. I only wanted to ever take care of mommies and babies. But I loved it! Talk about everything happens for a reason.
So when I got back to school in the Fall I transferred to the Emergency Room, never intending to stay 7 years but that's where I still am.
I love my job. I take pride in what I do.
There are times when my patience are tested to the end but there are times when you get the opportunity to help others and made a difference. I've learned so much working in a place like this, I count my blessings everyday.
But the best part of my job is hanging out with all these great ladies...
We have so much fun!
When you spend 12 hours with people you are forced to get along but I got a lot more than that with these girls. We are each others councilors, open ears but most of all we support each other.
We have become great friends at work and in our personal lives. I'm watching all their children grow up and they are always giving me advise for when I have kids. The girl on the far right, is the newest addition, I trained her and we were instant friends, she's from Alabama and is my SEC pal. We are taking a road trip at the end of the month to Alabama and then I'm going on up to Mississippi. The girl to the far left daughter was one of the flower girls in my wedding.
Oh by the way, there is a new nurse that is working with us that came from Mount Sinai in Beverly Hills and she said she was there when Brittany Spears came in, being that it is against the law, she would not tell me anymore than that but I was asking a million questions but she said the nicest famous person she took care of was Tori Spelling, I was not surprised she seems down to earth, considering.

  1. I can't imagine working with babies and then getting thrown into trauma. Right now I'm trying to get a job in the ICU.

  3. Oh my goodness, talk about everything happening for a reason!!!

I'm in nursing school and I will be starting my rotation in the ER this Saturday night and I'm scared to death too! I just feel like it's so out of my element.

So, I also have to tell you that I work part time on the L&D floor doing birth certificates for all the new babies - crazy, huh? I am so glad I saw your post! I'd love to read more nursing stories. It's good to know there is life after nursing school - lol!! ;)
